Belarus Novopolotsk

A serious view

I received this card some time back.Anyone from Belarus who can give me more copies of this card is welcome.

Navapolatsk (BelarusianНаваполацкRussianНовополоцкNovopolotsk, lit. New Polatsk) is a city in Vitsebsk ProvinceBelarus, with a population (2008 estimate) of 107,458. Founded in 1958,[2] it is located close to the city of Polatsk and the name literally means "New Polatsk".

History[edit source | editbeta]

The history of Novopolotsk( Navapolatsk) dates back to the year of 1958, when a large number of enthusiasts, workers and builders, seeking new experiences and romantic feelings came here to establish a new town. There was reason for that: a big oil refinery plant was to be set up. When new factories were being built, they were placed far enough away from Polatsk so that the radiation and dangerous gases would not reach the city. However, it was later decided that it would be acceptable to build a few buildings closer to the factories for the workers to live in. With them came a hospital, a fire station, and a school. A few more buildings were built and the city of Navapolatsk was born. The population grew over the years, even though it was located dangerously close to several factories - an ecological problem - including the well-known Polymir.
The city now has 15 secondary schools, many kindergartens and the Polotsk State University.

Pilsumer Lighthouse

A card from my new Friend.

Thank you so much...Ute.
This card came via letter/postcard swap.

The Pilsumer Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the North Sea near the dike to the community Krummhoern belonging resortPilsum . The tower is one of the most famous landmarks of East Friesland .

edit ]

The lighthouse was built in 1883 in the framework of the German-Dutch project lighting the sub-Ems as one of five Leitfeuernplanned and completed in 1890. [1] On 1 October 1891 were all five lighthouses are placed together in service. Each of the five leading light was for a specified section of the ship track between the North Sea and Emden responsible. [2] [3] The Pilsumer lighthouse was for about five kilometers long and 600 meters wide section of the driving route between Borkumresponsible and Emden. The other lighthouses within the transnational project were

The lighthouse served until June 1915 for the lighting of the Emshörnrinne . Then it was because of the First World War,decommissioned at enemy ships to give no indication of the fairway. In October 1919 was the final decommissioning because the fairway was amended by sand deposits. Following closure of the tower was used for different purposes and by changing owners. Its structural condition deteriorated steadily [5] and in the autumn of 1972 it was even a tear after. [6]
Instead of demolition took place in the spring of 1973 an elaborate renovation of the lighthouse, as a result, he also received the now well-known red-yellow-red paint for the first time. [7]
Since 1998, the lighthouse is owned by the dike Eight Krummhoern that since cares about the preservation of the lighthouse.
The tower was especially popular by the movie Otto - Der Außerfriesische of comedian Otto Waalkes . In the film, Otto lighthouse serves as a home. Furthermore, the tower comes in the 2003 episode broadcast storm sun and the television series crime scene with Maria Furtwängler before Commissioner Charlotte Lindholm. The episode takes place in the fictionalNordersiel (than neighboring Greetsiel recognizable).
